On Dark Places

Interesting. Jane Holland has initiated an exercise on her blog to do with first-draft writing and revision. Anyone can take part. The exercise is titled On Dark Places and full details can be found there. You can also read Jane’s attempt and responses to the first-draft part of the challenge at this link. You’ve got until Wednesday 12th December if you want to give it a shot.

That first word 'interesting' feels loaded. I hope the exercise live up to expectations!

It's a series of mini-workshops rather than a one-off. One-off exercises seem a little pointless. So one thing should lead on to another. But obviously, people can join in at any time, or just observe, as they choose.

The more examples of first drafts and revised drafts I have to work with though, the better. Hard to demonstrate by example without any examples!

Thanks for pointing browsers in the right direction. Much appreciated. Jx

Heh. I didn't mean 'interesting' to be loaded. I'm just intrigued to see what happens. I might give it a shot too. It all depends. I'm really busy at the moment, both at work and with other poetry deadlines. But maybe, depending on lucky inspiration.

I'd have joined in too, but today's new poem isn't about a dark place. Draft (about 15 minutes, but I wasn't timing myself) on my blog. I tend to follow Norman MacCaig's work pattern: "Sometimes I write a one-fag poem; sometimes it's two."

Since I gave up smoking, poems have to be measured in choclate biscuits.

Roll on, short drafts!

If desperate enough, I begin measuring poems in glasses of wine. Probably not the best ones.
