In my last post, I mentioned not writing a poem for around three months. In the last week, I’ve written seven poems, partly as a result of PFFA’s new Seven Seven forum. It was hard going to begin with, but I got into the swing of things as the week wore on.
Here’s the last of the seven.

Liked it - and the others and (particularly), following your link, Glory Box. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteI have to say that I've been trying to avoid that story as I knew I didn't have the stomach for it. Reading your poem stunned me to tears. It conveys everything (especially the raw anger) without the sensationalism.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting it.
Thanks, Oliver and Hazel.
ReplyDeleteI think this new one needs a touch of revision in various places (at the level of langauge and image). But I'm satisfied with it as a draft.
An extraordintary idea to juxtapose this awfulness with Christmas - makes it doubly awful. I cried.
ReplyDeleteA poem which works for me. As Frances says, the juxtaposition strengthens the impact. The hebdomad is an extremely interesting form; I have Roddy's original definition, and I've tried it a couple of times, but not as successfully as you have.
ReplyDeleteForgot to leave a comment: this looks really interesting and I think it really suits the material you've used here. The juxtaposing and the accumulation seems to work very well.
ReplyDeleteFrances, Colin, Barbara - thanks.
