Tim Buckley: Song To The Siren

One of my favourite songs of all time. Both this original and This Mortal Coil's cover.

Excellent stuff, Rob. Do you like any of his son's stuff, by any chance? I worked backwards from Jeff to Tim, so I'm quite biased towards Buckley Jnr., especially the excellent 'Lover, You Should've Come Over'. If you haven't, Jeff Buckley's live set at a l'Olympia is definitely worth a listen, particularly his version of 'Kick Out The Jams'.

Great track! I love "Once I was" by Tim, and Hallelujah by Tim.

I love Jeff Buckley and am happy I got to see him in concert in Edinburgh. Had no idea This Mortal Coil version was a cover of Tim Buckley, it gives me shivers, it's such an invocation of the 80s.

I just put this on my iPod this morning. Synchronicity!

I liked the Cocteau Twins in the 80s and their (as This Mortal Coil more or less were the Cocteau Twins plus guests) cover was one of my favourite moments of the decade.

Through it, I heard Tim Buckley. I thought he was strange but interesting (I heard some of his more experimental stuff first).

A few years ago, one of my friends recommended Jeff Buckley's Grace album to me, and I still think it's one of the very few truly great albums. It's a real tragedy that both father and son died in their twenties, but they've both left music that most pop musicians could only dream of producing.
