I remember a snowy February day in, I think, 1982, when me and my mate Colin got home from sledging (innocent times!) to find that the Leicester Mercury was announcing that Johann Cruyff was to sign for Leicester City. No one really believed it, of course, but the paper seemed to make the story stand up, so we all waited in blissful anticipation. A few days later, he announced he wasn't coming, "because it was too cold". I've still never found out how much truth there was in the whole thing. Mind you, not sure how he'd have fitted into Jock Wallace's team. The big man would have expected him to tackle back and make himself useful when things got a bit physical.
